Doctoral Degree Program

The doctoral degree program with 9 Promotionskollegs (research training groups) was established in 2005 at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. The purpose of the doctoral degree programs is to structure doctoral education, improve its quality and guarantee good supervision. You can only participate in this program if you are officially accepted as a doctoral candidate by the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. However, doctorates can still be undertaken without participation in a doctoral degree program.

* The Specialisation module in the research training groups „Global Food Security“ and „Water for Life“ is specified.

The doctoral degree program is characterised by:

  • competitive selection of doctoral candidates, using transparent criteria
  • Supervision by experienced scientists from various academic fields ("multifaceted supervision" - in personal and interdisciplinary terms)
  • Continuous assessment of the training and doctoral procedure by the supervisory team
  • Doctoral courses with the objective of imparting methodological, professional and interdisciplinary competence and key qualifications
  • Graduation after 4 to 5 years maximum

As a general rule, the supervisory team comprises three university lecturers from multiple fields.
